The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers East India branch celebrated it’s 24th Annual day on 14th December 2019 at Hotel GRT Convention Centre, Chennai.

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), East India branch celebrated it's 24th Annual day on 14th December 2019 at Hotel GRT Convention Centre, Chennai.

Hon. Chairman of the ICS East India Branch Mr. Ravee S.Tittei, FICS welcomed the Chief Guest Hon'ble Mr. Justice M. Sundar, Judge, Madras High Court and the branch members and their families besides guests. Hon Chief Guest expressed his pleasant feelings to address professionals of the Shipping Industry across South and East India.  Mr. Justice conveyed that the Panel Discussions were a learning experience as a student of Law.

The chief guest gave away the convocation certificates and the cash awards to the students who scored the highest marks at the London/ICS.  Professional qualifying examinations during the last academic year 2018-19.

Hon. Secretary thanked the chief guest and the members and their families for participating at the event to make it a success.

After the formal part of the Annual Day proceedings, fellowship games, entertainment and dinner followed.

PANEL DISCUSSION ON 'Blue Economy and challenges to overcome' and 'Recent changes in Private International Law in context of Maritime Law'

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, East India Branch on the occasion of its 24th Annual Day celebrations hosted the Panel Discussions on 'Blue Economy and challenges to overcome' and 'Recent changes in Private International Law in context of Maritime Law' on Saturday 14th December 2019 at the GRT Convention Centre, Chennai.

The topics were aptly chosen to enlighten the shipping fraternity, aspiring students and trade at large of the Domestic and International emerging markets.

The Blue Economy panel session covering the Indian Ocean was presented by Capt. Shyam Sundar I.N. Commanding Officer, INS Adyar, while the International aspect was dealt by Capt. Gajanan Karanjikar of SICAL, noted columnist on the subject.

The panel discussion was moderated by Capt. Venkat Padmanaban FICS, Managing Director of Vasi Shipping, Singapore. Hon'ble C.J.Mathew IRS, Hon. Member CESTAT Mumbai as session guest summed up the panel discussion from the Administrative perspective.

For the second session Capt. Vivek Jain, Author, Legal and Marine Consultant from Singapore, highlighted the recent changes in Private International Law in context to Maritime Law, while

Mr. P.Giridharan well known Chennai Advocate discussed about the domestic angle with reference to enforcement of foreign awards.

Hon'ble Justice M.Sundar, Judge of Madras High Court as the Session Chair encouraged a healthy question and answer session between the audience and panelist speakers.

To mark the annual day, a legal book authored by Dr. (Capt.) Vivek Jain with the title,  'Insight into China through Comparative Law Analysis of Invisible Factors and Contexts' was also  released by Hon'ble Justice M.Sundar.
