SRI LANKA BRANCH CELEBRATES STUDENTS SUCCESS

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers UK (Sri Lanka) Branch's  flagship event, the 21st Annual Award Ceremony  was held  on the 20th February , at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, Colombo to congratulate the Chief Guest at the event was the Minister of Finance Hon. Ravi Karunanayake ;with the Guests of Honor, Hon. Arjuna Ranatunge Minister of Ports, Shipping & Aviation and Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, Minister of Public Administration & Budda Sasana in attendance. The Keynote address was delivered by Hon Dr. Harsha de Silva Deputy Minister of Policy Planning & Economic Development, talking about the career path and the challenges along the way.


It was well attended by  the successful  students and their families , representatives of the   shipping community   as well as the members of the local branch. This indeed  demonstrated the continuing success of the  Sri Lankan Branch in being the leaders  in promoting  high standards of professionalism  in the local maritime industry.
The international emphasis of the  award ceremony  was illustrated  by the presence  of Mr Bruce Ogilvy  , the International President of  ICS (UK)., who was accompanied by his wife Mrs Wendy Ogilvy.


The speakers were full of praise  of  the undoubted  hard work put in by the award winning students  in completing  the Diploma, Advance Diploma and also  the Qualifying examination of the institute to earn the post nominal MICS.
The  Sri Lanka students who scored  the highest marks in  individual subjects too  were also felicitated in addition to  awarding certificates and medals to 10  Diploma & Advance Diploma   students , 10 new members (MICS)  and two  Fellows.


The award ceremony was preceded  by cocktails  with  Chandana Wickremsinghe dance studio performing  a colorful display  of  traditional Sri Lankan dancing.
