Australia & New Zealand Branch Annual Cocktail Evening

Posted on Thursday, September 8, 2016

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Australia and New Zealand Branch, hosted a Cocktail Evening recently, aboard the magnificent museum ship, the iron barque Polly Woodside.  The event was partly sponsored by Gearbulk Australia Pty Ltd and attended by a host of dignitaries from the maritime industry of Australia and New Zealand.

The function has now become an annual event on the Melbourne maritime calendar, bringing together maritime professionals for an evening of social networking.  A usual feature of the social evening is the award presentation to students excelling in the Institute's Professional Qualifying Examinations.

The Mike Byrne Branch Award for the student obtaining the highest aggregate mark was awarded to Ms Annabel Davies from Talbot Underwriting Ltd (Sydney), sponsored by Pacific Basin Shipping, Melbourne.

Ms Davies was also awarded the Excellence Award for obtaining a Distinction in the subject Legal Principles in Shipping Business, sponsored by Holman Fenwick Willan.

The following students also received Excellence Awards for obtaining a Distinction in a subject:

  • Mr Christian Becker from Thenamaris LNG Inc (Perth), for Economics of Sea Transport and International Trade, sponsored by Baird Publications.
  • Mr Loh Zhan Wen from Swire Shipping (Sydney), for Introduction to Shipping, sponsored by the Port of Melbourne Corporation
  • Mr Jingsong Li from New Zealand Steel (Auckland), for Shipping Business, sponsored by the Port of Melbourne Corporation.
  • Ms Samantha Iqbal from Pacific Forests Products (Auckland), for Introduction to Shipping, sponsored by the Port of Melbourne Corporation.

A very pleasant evening was had by all, as can be seen from the photographs, with the function spilling over into the pub next door until the early hours of the moning.
