Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and YoungShips International sign MOU

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) and YoungShip International (YSI) have formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking the beginning of a strategic global partnership focused on education, professional development, and further uplifting youth invovlement in the maritime industry.

The signing ceremony, held in Colombo, brought together industry leaders, professionals, and members of both these bodies and guests from the maritime community to witness the formalisation of this collaboration.

A Shared Vision for Industry Development

The MOU will establish a collaborative framework through which both organisations will work together to:

  • Promote maritime education and professional qualifications
  • Support continuous learning and career development for the future of shipping
  • Encourage youth involvement in the global shipping industry
  • Drive awareness around sustainability and innovation

Through this partnership, YSI members will gain increased access to ICS's globally recognised qualifications, including its Professional Qualifying Examinations, as well as webinars, mentorship opportunities, and industry-led learning platforms. Whilst ICS members will gain access to YSI learning resources, including webinars and events, as well as direct access to a network of young maritime professionals.

Bridging Experience and Emerging Talent

Speaking at the event, leadership from both organisations emphasised the importance of combining experience with emerging talent.

The partnership reflects a shared understanding that the future of shipping depends not only on technical expertise, but also on strong professional networks, access to real-time industry insights, and continuous learning.

ICS's international network of 27 branches, creates opportunities for local and global collaboration for YoungShip International's global community spanning over 5,000 members across 40+ chapters.

This partnership reinforces the role of both organisations in supporting the long-term sustainability of the maritime sector by investing in its people.
