Kevin Shakesheff appointed Vice President of the Institute

Posted on Monday, February 15, 2021

On Monday 8th February there was a Special General Meeting of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers to elect the nomination of Vice President.  The meeting was well attended with over 80 members joining the online meeting.

At the last AGM, members voted to accept the Chairman's motion to extend the tenure of the current President for six months until 8th April 2021.  At the AGM and subsequently to our branches, there was a call for nominations to be considered for Vice President. It has been tradition for the President to nominate their Vice President, however Lord Mountevans wanted our Institute to be more inclusive, open and to ensure that the net is cast appropriately widely, so he asked the Institute to invite nominations for the position of Vice President. There was great interest in the position.  Nominations were submitted from branches, individual members and a non-members. All nominations were of the highest calibre. It was an incredibly difficult decision, principally because of how the role has changed recently. The Institute needs a President who can work with the Senior Officers and contribute to the Institute and the business in a way that has not been necessary previously. It is this hands-on requirement that guided the search for the right person.

After much deliberation the President nominated Kevin Shakesheff FICS as Vice President of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Kevin has a great knowledge of the Institute and has extensive business experience. Kevin has been a member since 1974, Institute Chairman 2007-09 and has been active within the North East of England and South Wales and the West branches for many years as well as being on Federation Council. Kevin is Chairman and former Managing Director of Casper Shipping, a leading UK port agency, logistics and marine services business. He is also Co-Founder and former Chairman of the High Tide Foundation - an independent charitable foundation that delivers life changing career experiences for young people and increases awareness and engagement within the shipping sector and its supply chain. Kevin is currently Vice Chairman of the Mission To Seamans (North Tees and Hartlepool). He has an unwavering passion for education, supporting young people and for the Institute.

Kevin was approved as Vice President and recieved many comments of support during the SGM.
