Singapore - April 23, 2026
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, the professional body for the commercial shipping industry worldwide, has officially launched its new Branch The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers ASEAN Branch on the 23rd of April at the first ICS ASEAN Shipping Forum, held in conjunction with the Singapore Maritime Week. The event was well attended by ICS Fellows and Members, industry professionals and Guest of Honour, Mr Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
Building on the strong foundation and success of the ICS Singapore Branch, which was founded in 1978, the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers ASEAN Branch will bring together members from across Southeast Asia under one, coordinated platform.
As Captain Saunak Rai (FICS), Chairman of the ASEAN Branch notes, " The challenges facing shipping today do not respect borders, sectors, or job titles. They require collaboration rather than isolation. ASEAN is a dynamic and diverse maritime region - one that sits at the crossroads of global trade, energy flows, and supply chains. As shipping becomes more complex, more digital, and more closely scrutinized, the role of professional standards, competence, and ethical practicebecomes even more critical".
Our new Branch will strengthen support and create opportunities for engagement and collaboration across education and examinations, membership services, professional development and industry initiatives. The Branch aims to help start an open dialogue for our members and aspiring members across these countries and work together to combat these modern, global challenges.
The ICS ASEAN Shipping Forum 2026 is just the start with a calendar of upcoming events around key maritime topics such as Shifting geopolitical and trade patterns, volatile market dynamics, rapid digital transformation and tightening regulatory and decarbonisation pressure.
A special thank you goes to all those involved in bringing the ASEAN Branch to life, including Elaine Yu (FICS), Capt. Sabhangshu Dutt (FICS), Capt. Saunak Rai (FICS) and Mr Robert Hill (FICS), Director of the Institute.
We wish the ICS ASEAN Branch great success in their future development.
