ICS-ANZ-Branch-FreeWebinar-Topical-Issue-Autonomous-Ships-and-the-Law

  • Date Friday, February 25, 2022

Overview

You are invited to a free Zoom meeting on a current topical issue in maritime transport.

The Australia and New Zealand Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS-ANZ) holds frequent Online webinars and Tutorials on topical issues of concern and interest to the maritime industry. We are now resuming last year's successful offerings.

On 25 February 2022 the issue will be

Autonomous Ships and the Law:

Who is liable when the Ship causes damage?

It has very recently been reported in the Maritime Media that more than 1000 "autonomous" surface ships are already operating worldwide. In our industry we face continuously evolving terminology, and "Autonomous Ships" is one. What does this mean? Are these robotic ships, unmanned ships or ships of other descriptions? There are various issues surrounding this new maritime development. The ICS-ANZ Branch is certainly aware of the present and more importantly the future of this development and considers that legal issues will also arise when these ships are used to carry goods by sea. (Carriage of passengers on unmanned large cruise vessels may be another talking point!)

The ICS-ANZ offers some insights about these issues. You are welcome to join us.
