ICS West Africa - Emissions Webinar on 17.09.2020 blackboard

The West Africa Branch is delighted to invite you to the free webinar organised as part of the Branch celebration for the 10th year anniversary.

The webinar will address the following topic:

'Emissions in shipping- towards a zero carbon regime'

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), which regulates international shipping, has grappled with how to control greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from oceangoing vessels. In 2015, reduction targets for international shipping and international aviation were left out of the COP 21 ( Paris Agreement). Subsequently, the International Civil Aviation Organization, adopted a global climate agreement aimed at carbon-neutral growth from 2020. This left international shipping as the only major sector not covered under a global GHG agreement!
IMO agreed to develop an initial comprehensive strategy to reduce GHG emissions through 2050 (MEPC 72/2018).The initial IMO strategy, which will be revised in 2023 and reviewed in 2028, includes an overall vision for decarbonization; GHG reduction targets through 2050.
This lecture 'Emissions in shipping - towards a zero carbon regime' will be looking at measures that are currently in place and how best can the IMO goals be achieved by 2050.

We secured a great lecturer, Captain Ashok Pandey, FICS, PhD.
