Fuels challenges for 2020 and beyond

An evening lecture Monday 2nd September 2019

1730 for 1815 onboard HQS Wellington

The shipping industry has always evolved through demand of commercial and safety requirements, now we have entered an era where shipping is forced to change or evolve in a short period of time due to environmental concerns, legislation and global commitment to climate change.

In the absence of economic 'greener' fuels and its infrastructure, the shipping industry is now looking for short and medium term alternative fuels and technologies for sustainable low emission shipping.

This lecture will give insights to the current situation of alternative fuels options fuels and emissions control, considering the challenges that lie ahead with regard to the upcoming sulphur cap in 2020 and the likely roadmap of greener shipping ahead.

Speaker:

Capt. Muhammad Shafique

Capt. Shafique is a maritime academic, researcher and marine environmental enthusiast who is currently working as Head of Department for UK's leading maritime university. Muhammad has 38 years of industry experience onshore and offshore. Fellow of multiple professional bodies, he Chairs the IMarEST alternative fuels for shipping SIG and stands as the President of Southern joint branch of IMarEST/RINA.

We need you in the audience to add to the debate and join the informal discussion in the Wardroom Bar before and afterwards.
