Y.K. CHAN, FICS (Life)

Y.K. was past Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Hong Kong Branch (2002-04, 2008-10, 2012-14 & 2014-16).  He served on ICS Controlling Council and Executive Council for a number of years.  He initiated a cooperation arrangement for ICS with Taiwan International Ports Corp. (TIPC) for a Professional Shipping and Shipbroking Programme in Taipei in 2014.  The programme is running well till now.  Y.K. was the winner of Shinwa (UK) Ltd Award being the top candidate in the ICS combined Fellowship Parts I and II Exam in 1981. He acted as Part-time lecturer of the shipping programmes co-organized by SCOPE (School of Continuing and Professional Education) of City University of Hong Kong and Institute of Seatransport of Hong Kong. He is a permanent Tutor of Study Groups for ICS students in Hong Kong for the Professional Qualifying Examinations.  He also served a Tutor on ICS Prep course in Shanghai, Dubai, Durban and London.

Y.K. worked in Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong in various fields - shipowning, chartering, operation, ship sale and purchase, newbuilding contracting, ship finance, corporate structuring and tax planning. He is former Documentary Committee Member of BIMCO (1996-2003) and former INTERCARGO Asia Representative (1999-2005 & 2008-2014). He is a former Editorial Board member of "Asian Dispute Review". He is now practicing as Shipping Consultant and Maritime Arbitrator.  He is a Board Director of Hong Kong Maritime Museum, and Vice President cum Membership Committee Chairman of Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators.

 

LEIF OLLIVIERRE MICS PORTRAIT

Leif Ollivierre MICS

Leif has extensive experience in commercial shipping including ship operations, ship broking, financial reporting, wet and dry maritime law.

Most recently Leif was a Senior Lecturer in International Shipping and Port Management at the University of West London Leif lecturing on both the postgraduate MBA and undergraduate programs. Leif has worked as a maritime legal consultant in the City of London and has worked in the international trade and maritime industry in a variety of roles.

Leif also has extensive experience in training and development and learning and teaching in both higher education and professional shipping bodies. Leif was a senior International maritime law lecturer teaching at the post graduate and under graduate level. He was also Deputy Head of Education at the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and is now a lead examiner and member of the Board of Examiners at the Institute.

Captain Norman Lopez, FICS

Captain Norman Lopez is closely involved with the maritime industry and has been for 55 years: as a sea-going officer including Master, maritime academic, author, maritime arbitrator, FOSFA Superintendent, P&I Correspondent, and Solicitor, many of these roles concurrently and over many years. In addition to being a practising lawyer and P&I Correspondent for nearly 20 Clubs, for 18 years he also owned a very successful and active ship and cargo-surveying business that offered services all over Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. He presently practises as a Nautical Consultant, and Maritime Trainer.

He was Principal Lecturer (Associate Professor equivalent) for nearly nine years at the Hong Kong Polytechnic, now a University and during that time was also an arbitrator and author. He taught with BIMCO for nearly 33 years not only at courses all over the world but also contributed substantially to assisting BIMCO start its e-learning Diploma Course. He designed and delivered e-learning modules over many years for Introduction to Shipping, Bills of Lading and Tanker Chartering Laytime and Demurrage. He also designed and delivered Master Workshops in numerous ports on topics including Carriage of Goods by Sea and Agency in the Shipping Business: Law and Practice.

Norman is the Education Officer for the Australia and New Zealand Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. He is also a member of the ICS international Education and Training Committee, one core function of which is to oversee policy development concerning Professional Maritime Education.

Norman holds professional seagoing qualifications, including the Extra Master's Certificate (Thomas Gray Medallist), and a revalidated Master Class 1 Certificate (STCW 1995).
