The Baltic Exchange and Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers present a series of lectures in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Piraeus and London; intended to support and develop those working in chartering and operations.

Taking place every other month and including lunch where appropriate, lectures are free to employees at Baltic and Institute members. The series is aimed at supporting those developing careers in shipping and encouraging better advocacy across a future generation of industry leaders and is supported by all the major broking houses and a wide cross-section of principals.

London - 11 February - Market cycles; shipping trends and future drivers

Speaker: James Leake, Strategist, NS Lemos & Co Ltd

James is the in-house strategist for shipowner NS Lemos is a shipping and commodity markets analyst and has been responsible for building and managing research desks for some of the world's leading shipbrokers.

In our next London lecture, James Leake will take attendees on a journey through the future of shipping markets and advances that look likely to most affect trade patterns and freight demand. Alongside the major developments expected over coming years, he'll discuss how these impacting factors may alter the shape of shipping and freight markets as we know them. Join us on the 11 February to find out more…

Piraeus 11 February - 19:00 - 20:30 The Evolution of Ship Recycling

Guest Speaker: Dr Konstantinos Galanis, MICS

Resume: Dr. Galanis has 27 years of professional experience and is currently Director of Operations at Dido Shipping Co SA. He is a Commander (ret.) of the Hellenic Navy, Educational Counselor and member of Impact & Crashworthiness Lab for MIT and Founder of Shipping for Kids. Ηolds three graduate degrees from MIT, namely MSc in Ocean Systems Management, Naval Engineer and PhD in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering and Applied Mechanics (the first non-American active duty Officer to receive such title in the history of MIT). He has taught for several years courses related to Naval Architecture & Marine Hydrodynamics. He teaches Economics of Sea Transport & International Trade at the Hellenic Management Centre / Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Greek Branch. He is the President the International Ship Recycling Association. He is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, member of ABS European Technical Committee and ClassNK Greek Technical Committee. He has published several papers at International Journals, Conferences and events and has written several technical reports, projects and a book.

SINGAPORE EVENT CANCELLED

Singapore: 11 February with David K. Jordan Regional Director, Asia Maritime Strategies International on Shipping cycles

David is responsible for managing the company's activities in the Asia Pacific region. Based in Singapore, David is principally engaged in supporting clients, building brand awareness and marketing MSI's services to key industry stakeholders in the region. In addition, David contributes to MSI's range of publications and is involved in the provision of valuation services, and bespoke research and consultancy projects. He is regularly invited to speak at international conferences, board of director meetings and client events on various aspects on the maritime industry. David has more than ten years' experience of working in maritime research. Prior to joining MSI, he worked at Clarksons Research, initially as a maritime and offshore market analyst in their London office and latterly as General Manager of their regional research department in Singapore. David holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics with International Studies from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
