Just like in other industries, cyber security is becoming
increasingly important for maritime organisations and companies.
The complexity and risks deriving from digitisation make cyber
security a comprehensive topic. Because of the lack of clear
definitions for maritime related cyber challenges it is difficult
to come up with universal solutions for this industry.

The Maritime Safety Committee, that deals with maritime safety
and security which fall under the scope of the IMO adopted
their Maritime Cyber Risk Management in Safety
Management Systems - MSC.428(98) resolution during the
98th meeting on June 16, 2017. Unfortunately this
resolution does not provide solace. The resolution encourages
companies to address cyber risks. These have to be incorporate into
the company's Document of Compliance (DOC) no later then January
