Canada Branch Luncheon Series

Overview

The Canada Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, jointly with the Vancouver Maritime Arbitrators Association are holding a set of three 'Luncheon Series' presentations over the coming months.

The first goes Wednesday, May 10th at the Waterfront Centre, kicking off at 11:45 and will highlight two local maritime lawyers/arbitrators.

Gary Wharton - Partner, Bernard LLP, will present on Vessel Arrest / Maritime Liens followed by

John Bromley -  Partner, Norton, Rose, Fulbright presenting HANJIN BANKRUPTCY, the Local and Global impact to suppliers.

Attendees will enjoy sandwiches and refreshment while getting an opportunity to ask questions of the Presenters and mingle with other local shipping industry members.

Second event - Thursday / Jun 8th

Third event - Thursday / Oct 12th

Speakers and topics have yet to be announced but a short list of topics have been suggested:

  • BL's - Freight Prepaid vs Freightt Payable
  • What constitutes an arrived ship
  • Agents - who appoints / who pays / who's the employer
  • Berth charter vs Port charter
  • Commodity Sale Contract vis a vis Freight contract
  • Valid arbitration or mediation clause in CP vs BL
  • Clean vs Claused  - LOI's

Each event should wrap about 1:45 p.m.
