Sayer

He

as

years.
He was
from
2002 to
2006
chairman
of
Maritime
London,
the
organization
promoting
London's
maritime
services,
and
remains
a
trustee
of the
Maritime
London
Officer
Cadet
Scholarship
scheme.
He is a
member
of the
UK
Committee
of
Bureau
Veritas.
He was
closely
involved
with the
Admiralty
Solicitors
Group
for over
30 years
until
2003,
first as
secretary
for
twenty
years
and then
chairman
for
eleven.
He is a
past
chairman
of the
British
Maritime
Law
Association’s
committee
on
salvage
and
wreck
removal.
He was
appointed
an
Examiner
in
Admiralty
in 1996.
A Past
Prime
Warden
of the
Worshipful
Company
of
Shipwrights,
and a
governor
of
Framlingham
College
in
Suffolk,
Richard
has two
adult
sons and
lives
with his
wife
Georgina,
two
horses,
two
donkeys
and a
dog,
near
Liphook
in
Hampshire.
His
interests
include
cricket,
golf,
and
jazz.
His
dislikes
include
marzipan
and
uncommercially-minded
lawyers.

Kevin is Chairman of Casper Shipping Ltd, a leading specialist
ships agency organisation operating in the North East of
England and Scotland.
He started his career in shipping in South Wales and after
several management positions emigrated with his family to
Spain to become a tanker broker. Six years later he returned to
the UK to take up the post as MD of Clarkson Brothers and
Casper. In 2002 he orchestrated an MBO.
A member of the Institute since 1974, Kevin has held several
positions including-
• Education officer and Vice Chairman, in South Wales
• Education officer and Chairman Tees and Hartlepool Branch
• A member of Controlling Council and two periods as a
Federation Council delegate
Kevin is married with 3 children and a grandchild, his hobbies
include Rugby, Tennis and Golf, travel and Spanish language.

Karl is
currently
a
Director
of
Hamburg
Bulk
Carriers
and has
been a
Member
of the
Institute
since
1992 and
was
promoted
to
Fellow
in
1998.
Karl’s
background
in
shipping
began
after a
brief
military
service
and
dates
back to
1979,
where he
began as
a
trainee
with Uni-Charter
in short
sea dry
cargo
operations
and
chartering.
Karl
passed
the Hamburg
Chamber
of
Commerce
examination in 1991
as a
graduate
of the 'Akademie
der
Hamburger
Verkehrswirtschaft'.

After finishing three years at Naval College, he joined Houlder Brothers as a cadet rising through the ranks. On obtaining his Masters' ticket he became a Master of a Shell tanker and was then asked to work ashore at one of Shell's operational and chartering departments.
Following a highly successful 27 year career at Shell, he was Manager of the Chartering and Special Projects Department when he left to join Stelmar Tankers. Joining in 1992 as Marketing Director, he retired from the frontline in 2002 as Managing Director of Stelmar Tankers (UK) Ltd. He remains a consultant to Stelmar with special responsibility to Intertanko, where until recently was a member of its Executive Committee.

Commodore Alan Phillips was awarded a scholarship to enter BRNC as a Seaman Officer in the Royal Navy in 1967. After a succession of operational appointments, including a deployment to the Arabian Gulf in 1982, he commanded the frigate HMS PHOEBE (87-89) and the icebreaker HMS ENDURANCE (93 –95).
He was a member of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) in '96 and a student on the Higher Command and Staff Course (HCSC) in '99. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, he took early retirement from the Royal Navy in Nov 2001 to take up his current appointment as Director of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Sandra Hemming has been working for ICS for over 10 years. During this time, she has amassed a wealth of ICS knowledge and currently holds the crucial management position of overseeing all education matters. Responsible for the overall management of TutorShip, she masterminds PREP revision weekends and monitors the
distance
learning
centres worldwide.
In addition Sandra liaises with all the TutorShip tutors and negotiates all new contracts for education and training provision. Sandra is the Secretary to the Education and Training Committee and keeps the education section of the website up-to-date.

After University where he studied politics , Duncan Judd worked for the
International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation. He joined the Institute in May 2006 as Membership Project Manager. His duties include carrying out various projects for the benefit of members and branches. He also oversees all matters regarding new membership applications.

|
Maxine Cooper joined ICS in 2002 and deals with all aspects of examinations, registration , entry and exemption requests.
