CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP

What is it?
It is a partnership between shipping companies and the industry’s professional body.

The face of the shipping business is changing. It is becoming more accountable. When accidents occur at sea it is the whole shipping chain, from the broker to the ship manager to the shipowner and not forgetting the port agents, classification societies and P&I clubs, that has to shoulder the responsibility. Under the present stricter corporate governance regime shareholders and the authorities are holding Boards of Directors to account. They want to know what Directors are doing to control risk and mitigate the consequences of errors if they occur. A proven commitment to professionalism in addition to education and training within a business is a vital part of good corporate governance which reassures shareholders, clients and business partners and is fundamental to risk control and loss mitigation.

Why partnership with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers?
ICS is the professional body for commercial shipping worldwide. Established in 1911 and incorporated by Royal Charters in 1920 and 1984, it is charged with raising professional standards within the shipping industry through education and example. Professionalism couples trust and integrity with knowledge of one's business. The Institute is uniquely placed in combining these 2 tenets. It awards the only internationally respected professional qualification in shipping. ICS sets and examines the syllabus for membership and maintains high professional standards. ICS also provides education and training through its TutorShip distance learning and Coracle e-learning courses that cover the whole spectrum of the shipping industry.
Who is it for?
All shipping companies and maritime organisations worldwide who accept that raising professionalism in the shipping industry worldwide through education, training and qualification is the right thing to do.
How much does it cost?

What are Partners expected to do?

This can be demonstrated in a number of ways including sponsoring staff through professional education and training programmes, membership of professional bodies, supporting such initiatives as the Poseidon Challenge. Partners are invited to nominate a point of contact with whom ICS can liase on Partner issues and be prepared to submit a record of their commitment to ICS.
What is in it for us?
Entering into a corporate partnership with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers enables companies to demonstrate their commitment to raising professionalism through education and training to shareholders, the shipping industry worldwide and internally to their own staff. The economic benefits of high quality risk management and loss control are well proven.

By encouraging and supporting staff to qualify for ICS membership and thus raising the level of internal professionalism, companies will be seen to take staff development seriously, to improve service to customers and to be taking effective action to promote safer ships and cleaner seas.

This will assist companies to retain their better employees. Professionally trained staff are better placed to make better decisions on behalf of their companies.

Corporate partners will be able to place an "ICS partnership" logo on their company letterhead and website.
